From the daily commute to taking children to school and then on to a wide range of activities and tasks, most of us are used to jumping into the car many times each day.
As we focus on negotiating the traffic and reaching our end destination, we may not give much thought to the impact our activity is having on the environment.
But, with transport accounting for 36% of greenhouse gas emissions in Jersey, changing from a traditional fossil-fuel car to an electric vehicle would go a long way to supporting the Island’s drive to become carbon neutral by 2050.
In support of the growing demand for such vehicles, and as part of its vision to inspire a zero-carbon future, Jersey Electricity is committed to making EV ownership as easy as possible.
The company has invested heavily in the infrastructure needed to charge EVs, with the result that drivers are rarely more than a mile and a half away from an Evolve public charge point.
With more than 100 charge points on the Evolve network, the Island has over twice the number of charges per capita as the UK and, as EV ownership continues to grow, Jersey Electricity will continue to invest in further charge points to meet demand.
The latest additions to the network are the Channel Islands’ first ultra-rapid 150kW chargers, based at the Powerhouse. These can deliver up to 100 miles of charge in just ten minutes, subject to your vehicle’s charging rate. They can also charge two vehicles simultaneously at up to 75kw, depending on each car’s battery size.
Elsewhere, the network consists of fast chargers, ranging from 7kW to 22kW, and three 50kW rapid chargers.
